As a Veterinary Technician at Petco, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that day-to-day operations of our Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals run smoothly and provide an optimal experience for our patients and clients.
Job Summary:
The Veterinary Technician represents the mission and values to all clients and partners. Our team sets the tone for technical and customer support in the hospital, fostering cohesion and motivation within the hospital partners.
Main Responsibilities:
- Greet clients and patients, escort them into exam rooms, obtain vital signs, record patient history, and document electronic medical records.
- Assist veterinarians with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia's under direct supervision.
- Perform patient restraint, process laboratory samples, handle medications, and maintain electronic medical records.
- Schedule appointments, communicate with clients, relay test results, manage inventory and client/patient records, and oversee accounts receivable.
- Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, monitor anesthetized patients, and ensure their safe recovery and discharge.
- Provide in-hospital treatments for sick patients, administer injectable and oral medications, and safely care for patients.
- Participate in training new staff members and share knowledge as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized hospital environment, performing regular cleaning tasks based on necessity and schedule.
Requirements:
- College education or equivalent as a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state where the hospital is located.
- At least one year of experience as a Veterinary Technician or working in a veterinary practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassion, sympathy, and ability to maintain a professional attitude during stressful situations.
- Telephone and computer skills.
- Team player willing to learn new techniques, offer ideas, and adapt to change.
Educational Requirements:
We require a college or college-equivalent education as a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state where the hospital is located.
Experience:
Previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary practice is necessary, with at least one year of work experience.
Work Environment:
The majority of job duties take place in the Vetco Total Care full-service hospital, requiring occasional bending, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing for extended periods. The position involves frequent interaction with clients and their pets.
Estimated Salary:$65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
