Job Overview

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the adjustment and operation of slitting machines to convert wide coils (up to 54" wide) into narrower dimensions while ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Efficiently load and position coils onto the slitter using appropriate equipment.
  • Remove any packaging materials from coils prior to processing.
  • Handle the loading of spools onto rewind mandrels as required.
  • Thread coils through the slitter and monitor the slitting process, maintaining optimal machine settings and inspecting the material.
  • Identify and eliminate sections of coil that do not meet quality specifications.
  • Ensure accurate splitting and trimming of metal during processing.
  • Utilize automatic ramming systems to unload finished products.
  • Initiate new coils on rewind mandrels as needed.
  • Conduct machine shutdowns at the end of processing or when target weights are achieved.
  • Oversee the setup, installation, and calibration of cutting heads for both large and medium slitting machines.
  • Remove and replace positioning and oiling components as necessary.
  • Operate overhead cranes to transport slitter heads and other heavy equipment.
  • Complete all necessary documentation and reporting associated with slitting operations.
  • Transport coils to and from the slitting area, ensuring efficient workflow.
  • Monitor and maintain oil and coolant levels in machinery.
  • Manage the disposal and transportation of scrap materials from the slitting process.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the work area by cleaning oil spills and other debris.
  • Prepare metal orders for packing according to specified instructions.
  • Load and unload annealing skids with processed metals.
  • Follow packing instructions to ensure accurate documentation.
  • Arrange coils and separators as required for storage.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Adhere to the company's quality management protocols.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and cross-train in various functions.
  • Support initiatives aimed at continuous improvement within the operation.
