Position Summary

The Baggage System Technician will work under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor - Airline Services, taking on essential responsibilities related to the maintenance and operation of baggage handling systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all safety protocols established by ACAA.
  • Engage in job safety analysis procedures.
  • Operate scissor lift equipment safely.
  • Resolve baggage jams efficiently.
  • Identify airline property using IATA bar code tags.
  • Assist in moving baggage as instructed.
  • Load baggage onto conveyor systems as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness by emptying trash in the Airline Services area.
  • Ensure cleanliness in areas associated with baggage handling.
  • Maintain cleanliness in Airline Service shop areas.
  • Manually manage baggage within conveyor systems.
  • Monitor and report any faults in the baggage system.
  • Comply with the lockout/tagout program as required by ACAA.
  • Wash Airline Service vehicles, both inside and out.
  • Clean the exit windows of automatic tag reader laser heads.
  • Support Airline Service trades as necessary.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety practices and standards in an airport environment.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

To qualify for the Baggage System Technician position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
  • Personal protective footwear (safety shoes) is required.
Desired Skills and Abilities

Candidates should ideally possess:

  • In-depth knowledge of baggage handling practices and methods.
  • Understanding of safety hazards and injury prevention techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with standard practices and equipment.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Capability to operate scissor lift platforms.
  • Familiarity with IATA barcode identification.

Physical Requirements

This role requires meeting specific physical demands, including:

  • Regular use of hands for handling tools and controls.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and climbing at various heights.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities including close and distance vision.
