Veterinary Surgeon

The Anti-Cruelty Society seeks a skilled Veterinary Surgeon to provide high-quality surgical services to animals in our shelter and public clinic. As a key member of our veterinary team, you will work closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and clinic managers to deliver exceptional care to our patients.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assessing public and shelter patients pre-operatively for anesthetic risk
- Performing high-quality high-volume spay-neuter surgeries on shelter and public patients
- Collaborating with the veterinary team to determine best care for shelter patients, including pre-operative assessment, advising on surgical procedures, and managing post-operative care
- Performing dental examinations and extractions on shelter patients
- Performing other soft tissue surgeries and orthopedic surgeries on shelter patients as needed
- Conducting continuing education for the clinic and shelter staff
- Contributing to protocols and processes as delegated by the Clinic Medical Director
- Ensuring the smooth functioning of the clinic operation in cooperation with the Clinic Medical Director
- Attending Anti-Cruelty events as needed
Requirements include:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary program
- Current, valid Illinois veterinary license or ability to obtain one
- One year of previous surgical experience as a veterinarian, with high-quality high-volume surgical experience preferred
