Position Summary:
Under minimal supervision, the Automotive Service Technician II is responsible for executing mechanical and aesthetic repairs on both customer and internal vehicles, adhering to the standards set forth in the CarMax Certified Quality Inspection Process and the Retail Repair Process. This role also involves engaging with customers throughout the repair process, managing parts inventory, and ensuring the proper use and maintenance of all CarMax tools and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement CarMax standardized procedures for vehicle repairs.
- Conduct engine repairs and enhance engine performance.
- Diagnose and repair electrical systems.
- Perform manual drive train and axle repairs.
- Diagnose and repair braking systems.
- Execute steering and suspension repairs, including four-wheel alignments.
- Service heating and air conditioning systems.
- Inspect vehicles in accordance with CarMax quality standards as necessary.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace following CarMax 5S standards.
- Care for, repair, and clean shop equipment.
- Engage with customers in a friendly and service-oriented manner.
- Consult with customers regarding necessary repairs.
- Review repair orders for accuracy in labor, parts, and documentation.
- Close and invoice repair orders.
- Clearly explain all repairs and services performed to customers.
- Handle service payments and manage cash transactions.
- Receive and manage parts shipments and inventory.
- Ensure parts inventory is neat, accurate, and at appropriate levels.
- Control service supplies to minimize waste.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Provide support to store operations to maintain vehicle inventory and quality standards.
- Assist in assessing vehicle conditions during the sales process and prepare sold vehicles for delivery.
- Coordinate with external vendors for vehicle services that cannot be performed in-house.
Job Requirements:
- Complete new associate orientation training.
- Participate in Kronos training for hourly associates.
- Obtain a refrigerant recycling license.
- Maintain ASE certifications in relevant areas as required by state/local laws.
- Read and interpret data to maintain accurate records.
- Perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Communicate effectively with customers and associates in person and over the phone.
- Demonstrate attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Ensure compliance with CarMax, OSHA, and EPA standards.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Display exceptional telephone etiquette and active listening abilities.
Working Conditions:
- Work in a combination of office and outdoor environments, potentially in noisy or inclement weather.
- May require prolonged periods of walking or standing.
- Flexible work hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Wear company-provided CarMax attire while on duty.
