Position Overview:

Contingent Pharmacist

Afternoons/Rotating Weekends (every other weekend or every 3rd weekend)

Under the supervision of the Manager of Community Pharmacy Services and the Clinical Pharmacy Manager, this role involves delivering clinical support and distribution services to ensure high-quality, safe, and cost-effective medication therapy for patients.

Qualifications:

A. Education

  • A minimum of a B.S. in Pharmacy from an accredited institution is required.
  • A Doctor of Pharmacy degree and/or additional ACCP accredited certification is highly preferred.

B. Licensure / Certification

  • Must be a registered pharmacist eligible for a Michigan Pharmacist and Controlled Substance license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is necessary.
  • If involved in emergency response, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.

C. Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with diverse healthcare personnel and patients.
  • A commitment to the vision and mission of the organization and the principles of continuous quality improvement.
  • Excellent customer service skills to interact effectively with various stakeholders.

D. Experience

  • Prior experience in hospital, retail, or long-term care settings is preferred based on departmental needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and interpret all medication orders to ensure appropriate therapy in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Review and maintain patient medication profiles for potential allergies, interactions, and therapeutic duplications.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify and rectify unclear or inappropriate medication orders.
  • Provide drug information and education to healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Accurately prepare and dispense medications and IV admixtures for both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Ensure adherence to compounding and dispensing protocols to minimize errors.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and interns in their daily operations and assist in performance evaluations.
  • Participate in training and orientation for new staff and students in clinical or operational areas.
  • Maintain accountability for controlled substances and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Engage in pharmaceutical care activities including patient rounds and therapeutic drug monitoring.
  • Uphold the mission of the organization through ethical and professional conduct.
  • Stay informed of applicable laws and regulations to ensure compliance in all activities.
  • Support customer service expectations in all interactions.
