Overview: We are seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Project Management, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proven expertise in providing hands-on installation support for both new and modified production machinery, including troubleshooting and initiating processes for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience in project management tasks, such as evaluating and refining equipment installation practices to enhance efficiency, sourcing and accelerating parts and materials, and ensuring that all documentation, schedules, and checklists are current.
  • Ability to oversee both internal and external technicians, as well as maintenance and contract trades, throughout all phases of equipment installation and modification, including demolition, construction, installation, testing, and debugging.

Essential Skills:

Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office is required.

Purpose of the Role:

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Providing hands-on support for the installation of new or modified production equipment.
  • Supervising and guiding contract engineering technicians, internal maintenance teams, and external trades during all phases of equipment installation and conversion.
  • Conducting troubleshooting, process initiation, design, and documentation for mechanical and electrical systems related to production equipment.
  • Creating and updating documentation to finalize drawing packages, installation checklists, machine part lists, illustrations, and specifications for production equipment.
  • Assessing the condition and functionality of existing equipment in relation to new installation plans.

Major Responsibilities:

The majority of time will be spent on the production floor, focusing on:

  • Developing mechanical and electrical installation checklists and schedules.
  • Procuring and expediting materials for new or modified equipment.
  • Recommending vendors and maintaining effective communication between vendors and the plant.
  • Redesigning mechanical components to minimize installation costs, resolve equipment conflicts, and rectify design inadequacies.
  • Preparing work orders and directing maintenance personnel and/or contract trades in the fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation of equipment.
  • Creating, reviewing, and updating installation documentation and drawings as necessary.
  • Executing initial equipment setup and debugging prior to handover to operations.
  • Collaborating with all departments to ensure efficient equipment use and operation.
  • Providing advanced troubleshooting support, directing contract engineering technicians and trades as needed to replace defective components and implement design changes to resolve equipment/process issues.
  • Delivering training to contract engineering technicians, internal maintenance staff, and external trades on new equipment installation procedures.
  • Analyzing and refining equipment installation practices to enhance efficiency, particularly in relation to installation schedules.
  • Developing cost-reduction strategies for installation projects.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Project Management.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Skills: Self-motivated, results-oriented, capable of managing multiple priorities, and effective in small team environments. Strong organizational skills are essential.

Unique Requirements: This position requires significant time spent on the production floor working with equipment.

Process Understanding: Familiarity with flow, temperature, rate, pressure, and level variables.

Software Experience: Proficiency in Windows, MS Office Suite (including PowerPoint, Excel, Word), AutoCAD 2023, Inventor 2023, MS Project, as well as knowledge of pneumatic systems, motion control systems, and automated equipment systems.
