The Sample Room is seeking an experienced Luxury Handbag Craftsman to join our team in Brooklyn, NY. As a key member of our design development facility, you will be responsible for creating high-quality handbag and small leather goods prototypes and samples.

We offer a competitive salary of $65,000 per year, based on your experience and skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create professional handbag leather goods prototypes and samples
  • Study design cards and communicate any questions/issues to the Director or Office Manager
  • Work closely with Pattern/Sample makers and Floor Manager to align with company standards and complete projects
  • Prep work including cutting, gluing, and skiving
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace throughout and at the end of each day

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of work experience in sewing handbags, small leather goods or related
  • Ability to read and understand a design card/technical drawing
  • High attention to detail and craftsmanship - maintaining clean stitching, consistent margins & SPI on all constructions
  • Must be willing to assist with other functions as needed
  • Eager to learn and expand skills and quality of work
  • Works well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Must have a positive attitude and work well with others along with professionalism in attitude, appearance and approach
  • Flexibility to work occasional evening/weekend hours, based on the needs of the business
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and adjust priorities as necessary
  • Working English as needed to fulfill job requirements
