Role Summary:
The Patient Care Associate plays a vital role in supporting healthcare professionals in delivering quality patient care. Responsibilities include assisting with patient transport, maintaining a clean and organized environment, and performing various administrative and clinical tasks to ensure efficient operation of the patient care unit.
This position requires a blend of clinical knowledge and procedural skills, including the use of sterile techniques and monitoring medical equipment.
Facilitates effective communication within the patient care unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist healthcare providers during routine assessments and procedures, ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
- Thoroughly review patient care documentation, noting any significant changes in condition and promptly reporting to the appropriate medical staff.
- Perform various clerical duties such as managing workload, welcoming visitors, gathering information for healthcare providers, reviewing orders for accuracy, and maintaining medical records. Conduct routine quality assurance checks and manage inventory of supplies.
- Provide administrative support, including participation in performance improvement audits and data entry tasks.
- Assist with clinical support tasks, including maintaining cleanliness in work areas, troubleshooting equipment issues, changing linens, managing supply inventories, and aiding in the orientation of new staff and students.
- Deliver direct personal care to patients as outlined in care plans, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with mobility. Measure and document vital signs, height, and weight. May also involve specimen collection and basic wound care.
- Reinforce educational materials provided to patients by healthcare professionals and document patient comprehension of instructions.
Additional Information:
Education Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
- Registered as a Nursing Assistant II with the relevant state board.
- Registered as a Nursing Assistant I with the appropriate health department.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of one year in a clerical or customer service role, along with six months of relevant nursing assistant experience, which may include formal training or a combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in verbal and written English communication. Ability to develop computer skills as needed.
