Unit Overview

The 4th floor (4NS) is dedicated to cardiac progressive care, featuring 36 beds that include 30 semi-private rooms and 3 private rooms, one of which is a negative pressure room. Each patient is monitored via telemetry at all times. We cater to a variety of patients, specifically hemodynamically stable adults aged 18 and older who require monitoring every four hours. Pediatric patients aged 14 and above may also be accommodated in a private room with a guardian present. Common conditions treated include cardiac interventions, pre-CABG, arrhythmias, blood pressure irregularities, congestive heart failure, substance abuse issues, and general medical cases. The unit administers medication drips such as antiarrhythmic agents, IV nitroglycerin, heparin, non-titrating dopamine, and IV inotropic medications (excluding levophed, neosynephrine, or labetalol). However, we do not manage ventilators or heated high-flow oxygen modalities. The 4th floor is characterized by a dynamic, high-energy atmosphere that emphasizes teamwork, compassion, and mutual respect among all staff members. We foster a supportive yet structured environment that encourages professional growth and development. Family involvement in patient care and decision-making is a priority.

Role Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) operates under the ANA scope of practice, utilizing the nursing process framework to deliver professional nursing care. This includes integrating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge patients. The RN ensures quality patient care in alignment with Corewell Health policies and procedures, recognizing the significance of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on health outcomes. Collaboration with patients and families is essential in developing care plans and educational strategies, with appropriate documentation of education and learning in health records.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required within five years of hire.
  • Graduates from non-accredited nursing programs must possess at least one year of acute care experience or two years in a licensed healthcare role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • Current Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved organization is required upon hire.
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required within six months.
  • Specialty certification is highly recommended within two years.

Work Schedule

This position is full-time, primarily on the night shift, with scheduled hours from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. The workdays may vary, and weekend shifts are required every other weekend.
