Job Summary

The Driver - Class C (Scout and/or Backyard Service) is a critical role at Athens Services, responsible for safely operating a pick-up truck paired with a hydraulic powered fork system and/or dump containers. This position is responsible for efficiently servicing assigned customers, while complying with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations and with Company policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a Safe and Clean Working Vehicle
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle
  • Report any unsafe situations or service calls before attempting service
  • Participate and cooperate in all scheduled training, briefings, and safety meetings
  • Work closely with Route Supervisors to improve route efficiencies & identify problem or unsafe accounts
  • Notify Route Supervisor of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage
  • Report blocked containers, potential missed pick-ups or problems that arise on the route
  • Communicate customer requests or issues to Dispatch or Route Supervisor
  • Completely dump all containers and leave the customer's location clean and free of debris
  • Position containers on the customer's property in a correct manner during delivery
  • Extract containers in a safe and efficient manner during route
  • Follow route assignments throughout the day and complete all documentation when checking-in
  • Provide a positive professional customer attitude when dealing with customers
  • Assist other drivers in completing routes as directed
Requirements
  • Education
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • License and Certification
  • Valid Class C Driver's License
  • Acceptable driving record

  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations

  • Work experience in the waste, environmental services, energy, or transportation industry
Physical and Environmental Demands

The following are the key points concerning the physical requirements and work environment of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Bins may exceed 1000 pounds in weight. Please note that while bins have wheels for assisted movement, employees will be required to physically push, pull, and lift bins up hills and uneven terrain.
  • Continuously grasping, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, twisting, stooping, walking on uneven surfaces and lifting up to 75 lb. frequently.
  • Frequent entry and exit from a pick up truck, up to 150 times daily.
  • Able to work standing and/or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Standing, walking, seeing, hearing, & smelling continuously.
  • Problem solving, oral/written communication, analytical ability, concentration, & interpersonal abilities continuously.
  • Eye/hand coordination, handling, & wrist motion continuously.
  • Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, grease, oil, chemicals, wet/hot conditions, & noise continuously.
  • Works outside only.
  • Working in Windy/Hot/Cold/Wet environments, working around heavy equipment, working among refuse and exposed to dusty conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to traffic, being aware of all your surroundings, maintain a high level of communication with others.
