Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pharmacist Outpatient Relief to join our team at Northern Arizona Healthcare Corporation. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will provide exceptional patient care, supervise support staff, and participate in dispensing activities, adverse drug reaction monitoring, drug information, and patient education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform clinical services to optimize drug therapy and document interventions.
  • Deliver medications to patients' bedside prior to discharge and provide medication counseling.
  • Prepare specialty compound drugs.
  • Provide accurate, clinically relevant drug information to physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Provide pharmaceutical care to nursing facility patients.
  • Identify, prevent, and investigate potential and real adverse drug reactions and medication errors.
  • Provide medication counseling to patients at the pharmacy level.
  • Review and interpret physician orders properly; screen for incompatibilities, interactions, duplicates, or contraindications.
  • Contact prescriber and/or nursing personnel regarding any questions on drug orders.
  • Responsible for the accurate dispensing and labeling of medication orders.
  • Competent in using various pharmacy technology products such as electronic health records, automated dispensing machines, unit dosing, and clinical decision support/data mining tools.
  • Provide drug information to prescribers per request.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Process patient charges and credits.
  • Assist in maintaining basic drug supply from vendors.
  • Exercise applicable legal and professional controls on controlled substances.
  • Verify physical inventory for incoming/outgoing items.
  • Supervise supportive personnel and organize/direct workflow as needed.
  • Meet administrative and miscellaneous requirements of the department.
  • Report adverse drug reactions, medication errors, and good catches.
  • Double count the money on the point of sale system at the end of the day.
  • Perform all operational aspects of retail pharmacy including computer operations and electronic billing.
  • Serve as a resource to staff in caring for complex patients.
  • Work with the pharmacy manager and other pharmacy team members to achieve compliance of department policies and procedures.
  • Assist the department manager and other pharmacy staff on all aspects of quality improvement of pharmacy services.

Compliance/Safety Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attend all safety-related training programs; perform work in a safe manner; monitor work environment for possible safety issues and ensure others are also performing work in a safe manner.
  • Adhere to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Practice in a safe and cost-effective manner.
  • Stay current and comply with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
  • Ensure all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
  • Complete all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy - Required.
  • Arizona State Board of Pharmacy license - Required.
  • One (1) year of experience in a retail or alternate care pharmacy - Preferred.
