About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team at Advocate Health and Hospitals Corporation. As a key member of our rehabilitation department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily maintenance routines for various rehabilitation departments, including disinfecting equipment, loading and unloading dishwashers, and storing and maintaining disinfectant according to hospital specifications.
- Prepare and clean therapy rooms for specific procedures, deliver and pick up equipment for special disinfecting procedures, and perform daily sanitation of PT/OT Gym areas.
- Provide clerical support, including maintaining department supplies and materials, submitting clinical forms to medical records, copying and distributing documents, and addressing and filling envelopes for mailings.
- Assist with basic modality and exercise treatments, including delivering hot/cold packs, Hydra, and other basic treatments under the direct supervision of a therapist.
- Prepare patients for treatment, assist with set up and clean up for video swallow studies, splinting, casting, and group therapy, and assist patients with dressing and undressing as needed.
- Transport patients and supplies between various rehabilitation settings, complete errands throughout the hospital, and perform transporting duties as requested.
- Perform basic gait training and exercises with patients under the supervision of a therapist.
- Perform basic patient transfer techniques, including stand pivot, slide board, sit to stand, and cart transfers, under the direct supervision of a therapist.
Requirements:
- High School Education
- 1 year of experience as a Rehab Aide or Rehab Technician
- Good communication skills and competency in all Rehab Aide I duties
Working Conditions:
- The physical demand level and degree of strenuous activity ranges from occasional sedentary work to regular heavy work involving moving/lifting of patients.
- Ability to perform very heavy lifting - Up to 100 pounds occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds constantly.
- Ability to assist, escort, transfer, and respond to patient needs for extended periods of time.
- May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases.
- Exposure to risk of blood-borne pathogens.
- May be subjected to varying and unpredictable situations.
