Department Overview
The Gas Operations department is dedicated to maintaining the safe and dependable distribution of natural gas to our clientele. This unit oversees all facets of gas distribution and transmission, including planning, engineering, maintenance, construction, restoration, and emergency response.
Position Summary
This role is represented by IBEW Local 1245, which has a long-standing history of advocating for employees at PG&E. This position is subject to collective bargaining agreements.
The Electric Locator is a skilled professional who holds the qualifications of a Journeyman Electrician. This role entails the precise, safe, and efficient identification of underground utilities, including electric and gas lines. Additionally, the Electric Locator is responsible for standby duties when contractors are excavating near critical facilities. This includes the completion of necessary documentation and serving as a liaison to third-party contractors, customers, and private landowners. The Electric Locator may also perform gas locate and mark duties as needed in conjunction with electric locate and mark assignments. Standby work for non-company construction jobs is primarily conducted by Gas Compliance classifications but may be assigned to other Gas Department roles as necessary. If additional resources are required, the Electric Locator may undertake standby duties if qualified under DOT regulations. The tasks related to damage prevention are not exclusive to this classification, and Electric Locators must complete initial and ongoing training to maintain their qualifications.
This position is intended to fill vacancies in the Bay Area region.
Job Responsibilities
- Complete necessary documentation and act as a liaison to third-party contractors, customers, and private landowners.
- Perform standby duties when contractors are excavating near critical facilities.
- Execute accurate, safe, and efficient locate and mark duties for underground utilities, including electric and gas.
- Participate in DOT Operations/Maintenance and Emergency duties.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience is required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions.
- Willingness to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Completion of an IBEW/Joint Apprentice Training Committee (JATC) sanctioned Electrician training program.
- Must be able to wear company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous military experience.
- Electrician Journey certification.
- Manhole safety training.
- Experience in PG&E construction or utility operations.
- Five years of journey-level experience in industrial electrical construction.
- Experience with electronic or mechanical equipment.
- Instrumentation and control experience.
- Electrical experience with substations or power generation.
- High voltage experience.
- Experience with testing equipment and troubleshooting.
- Prior experience with utility locate and mark operations.
