Job Summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on a night shift basis. As a critical care specialist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality respiratory care to critically ill neonates, infants, and children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide all respiratory care related duties and functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Set up and administer all routine and complex respiratory care procedures to patients in the NICU, including non-invasive ventilation and acute care ventilators.
  • Transport patients on mechanical ventilators, non-invasive ventilation devices, and critically ill patients to intra-hospital procedures and testing.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate care to support the various patient populations during their hospitalization.
  • Assist with the orientation process for new employees, mentor employees orienting to a specialty care unit, and function as a resource to NICU RCP float staff.
  • Act as the charge therapist in the absence of the Lead Respiratory Therapist on a rotational basis, performing the duties and responsibilities described in that job description.
  • Maintain proficiency in taping IV's, assisting in umbilical line placement, placing oro/nasogastric tubes, and intubation and surfactant administration.
  • Process and interpret point of care (POC) blood gases, glucose, and electrolytes, and collaborate on quality control with the POC Coordinator.
  • Attend deliveries and perform resuscitative duties as part of the NICU team.
  • Transport - operate, troubleshoot, and monitor respiratory equipment during air and ground transport, including ambulance, helicopter, and fixed wing.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
  • Minimum 1 year respiratory experience required, 6 months critical care.
  • RRT certification required.
  • CPR, ACLS, NRP certification required.
  • NPS preferred.
  • IL and/or WI Respiratory Care Practitioner license required.
Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually occupational exposure, category A.
