ERM is seeking a skilled Wildlife Conservation Specialist to conduct nesting bird surveys and special status species surveys for a large vegetation management compliance program in California. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting fieldwork, collecting data, and providing advice to construction crews to ensure compliance with client requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-construction nesting bird and special status species surveys
  • Work independently in remote locations, collecting data and monitoring construction activities
  • Provide advice to construction crews to maintain compliance with client requirements
  • Collect and analyze data using electronic and handheld GPS devices
  • Compile daily reports and survey reports
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • At least 2+ years of experience in avian biology and special status species
  • Familiarity with nesting bird survey protocols and general bird identification skills
  • Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain
  • Working knowledge of sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel with overnight stays possible
