This role is situated within the North Battlefield Outpatient Clinic (NBVAOPC) under the Diagnostic Imaging Service. The incumbent will conduct a range of diagnostic radiography mammography examinations and procedures, operating autonomously and without direct oversight. The NBVAOPC is set to commence operations in the near future. If selected, you will initially be assigned to the Hampton VA Medical Center or other community-based outpatient clinics until the primary facility becomes operational.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not feasible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Certification:
All candidates must possess certification in general radiologic technology from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R).
Advanced ARRT certification is mandatory for roles that encompass computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently.
Education:
Completion of a comprehensive training program lasting at least 24 months in a post-secondary diagnostic radiologic technology curriculum, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
Credentialing Standards:
Must have successfully finished an educational program accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and be certified as radiographers in their respective field.
Grade Determinations:
Mammography Imaging Specialist, GS-9 Experience: A minimum of one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-8) level, directly related to the position being filled.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while performing intricate scans and procedures.
Knowledge of techniques for gathering pertinent information from medical records and healthcare providers.
Ability to evaluate factors that may contraindicate the procedure.
Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography.
Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods, and universal precautions.
Knowledge of pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients.
Physical Requirements:
Heavy lifting (45 pounds and over), moderate carrying, prolonged walking and standing, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
Major Duties Include:
Maintaining effective oversight of the mammography section by coordinating, planning, and executing workflow.
Scheduling patients for examinations and maintaining a daily log of patients and procedures.
Receiving and positioning patients for examinations, explaining procedures to ensure maximum cooperation.
Performing screening and diagnostic mammograms and assisting the radiologist in interventional procedures.
Conducting Quality Control procedures and ensuring all mammogram images are displayed appropriately.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
Monday- Friday, varying schedules (may include rotating weekends, evenings, and holidays).
