Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for ensuring the OR staff has correct, fully functional, sterile instrumentation delivered in a timely manner consistent with the highest standards of customer service. This role involves performing the four basic departmental functions (decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch) with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the standards and procedures associated with the preparation, sterilization, storage, and delivery of surgical instrumentation and endoscopes per AAMI, AORN, SGNA, ASGE, and CDC guidelines.

Responsibilities:

• Assemble and deliver sterile and non-sterile instrumentation, supplies, and equipment to the Surgery Department
• Perform cleaning and decontamination duties, working quickly and safely and thoroughly addressing all instrumentation taking into account any unique cleaning demands
• Inspect, assemble, and package all decontaminated reusable instruments and sets ensuring for cleanliness and functionality of all instrumentation
• Operate all processing equipment used within the department
• Perform sterilization and all associated monitoring activities
• Maintain responsibility for returned instrumentation and supplies (if applicable) that is unused, and the integrity of packaging has not been compromised

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED/ equivalent (required)
• One (1) year of previous experience in a healthcare setting in a clinical capacity (preferred)
• Previous experience in sterile processing (strongly preferred)
• Nationally recognized certification for Sterile Processing required within 12 months of hire date (required)

Working Conditions:

This role requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and deadlines. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills. The ability to lift, push, and pull equipment and supplies is also required.
