Job Summary

Berea College is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the role of Teacher Aide in our Child Development Lab. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with the Lead Teacher and Assistant Teacher to create a safe and stimulating learning environment for young children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize and maintain a safe, clutter-free, and engaging learning environment that caters to children of diverse ages and abilities.
  • Collaborate with families, teachers, labor students, and college students to achieve common goals.
  • Practice open and respectful communication with children, families, colleagues, labor students, college students, and supervisors at all times.
  • Utilize positive guidance strategies and best practices to promote child development.
  • Record attendance, accidents, incidents, and other relevant information in accordance with licensing regulations and CDL policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the NAEYC code of ethics in all matters.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks as assigned and in a timely manner to ensure a clean and safe environment.
  • Attend conferences, in-services, and workshops to enhance professional development and stay updated on industry best practices.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings and required college training and orientation sessions.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential is preferred.
  • At least one year of related experience in childcare or early childhood education, preferably in a classroom setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of child development principles and practices.
  • Understanding of Kentucky childcare regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and students.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and remain calm in crisis situations.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds and move quickly.
  • Ability to be aware of all children in your care at all times.
  • Work in a well-lighted, temperature-controlled building with reasonable space and equipment.
  • Work with children outdoors in various weather conditions.
