As a Pharmacy Intern, you will be responsible for assisting in the management of medication orders, monitoring patient medication therapies, and delivering drug information under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. Your tasks will require verification by a registered Pharmacist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately interprets and transcribes medication orders into computerized patient profiles, ensuring the maintenance of complete and precise medication records; prepares and dispenses medications, including sterile IV solutions, adhering to established protocols.
  • Distributes controlled substances to designated patient care areas, maintains legal records, and supports pharmacokinetic and anticoagulation consultation services as per organizational guidelines.
  • Evaluates medication therapy regimens for potential contraindications, interactions, allergies, and the appropriateness of prescribed drugs, dosages, and therapeutic duplications.
  • Analyzes culture and susceptibility data to assess antibiotic suitability and recommends necessary adjustments.
  • Identifies and reports any suspected adverse drug reactions and medication errors promptly; participates in safety alert protocols.
  • Provides clinical advice and clarification to nursing and medical staff; recommends evidence-based medication regimens and monitoring strategies; suggests cost-effective therapeutic alternatives and remains adaptable to additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Education - Completion of the first professional year in an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited program, or graduation from a non-accredited program with successful completion of the NAPLEX and approval from the board office, eligible for a limited (intern) permit. This permit allows practice under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist in New York State.
  • Experience - Previous experience in a health-system pharmacy is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Licensure - Must possess a Limited (Intern) Permit from the State of New York. A pharmacy intern is required to obtain a NY State Pharmacist license and registration within six months of hire. Failure to do so may result in a review of employment status.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience - Health-system pharmacy experience is advantageous but not essential.
Work Environment:
  • Onsite presence is required.
Compensation:
  • Hourly pay ranges from $23.90 to $37.88.
