Job Overview

Position Title: Youth Advocate
Reports to: Preserving Native Families Program Manager
Salary: $17.82 (G13-E)
Status: Regular, Full-time (Non-exempt)
Location: Human Services Department, Winnebago, NE

Position Purpose:
This role is designed to assist at-risk youth within the service area of the Human Services Department. The Youth Advocate will provide essential support and guidance to young individuals, their guardians, and caseworkers in crafting effective transition plans towards independent living. Responsibilities include offering or sourcing individual or group instruction on various life skills such as daily living, employment, education, financial literacy, self-care, personal growth, and problem-solving. The advocate will also coordinate youth support groups and community engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments and create tailored case plans in collaboration with guardians and service providers.
  • Assist youth in skill development aligned with their assessments and case plans, including participation in community initiatives.
  • Perform home visits and maintain contact with clients to track progress on case plan objectives.
  • Prepare and submit detailed monthly reports to relevant stakeholders regarding youth in care.
  • Establish a network of community service providers and collaborate to enhance youth support.
  • Engage with various community professionals and programs to ensure comprehensive support for youth.
  • Guide youth in setting educational and employment goals, as well as identifying supportive adult networks.
  • Provide consultation and support to parents and guardians involved with youth.
  • Participate in court hearings and meetings as necessary.
  • Facilitate youth talking circles and support groups.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client files, including assessments and case notes.
  • Track and report outcomes as required by the program.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as directed.
  • Offer transportation services and conduct home studies when necessary.
  • Contribute to the development of culturally relevant strategies and programs for youth and families.
  • Research and compile information on community resources.
  • Conduct additional training sessions as needed.
  • Promote awareness of available community resources and programs.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or three years of relevant college coursework is required.
  • Familiarity with Winnebago customs and kinship systems is preferred.
  • Experience working with youth and Native American communities is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain appropriate insurance.
  • Must pass a federal background check and drug testing.

Training Requirements:
Attendance at all mandated meetings and training sessions is required.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to perform light office work, including lifting up to 10 lbs. and prolonged periods of sitting and standing. Strong social interaction skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision are essential.

Language Proficiency:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
