As a technologist, you will operate MRI machines and ensure that the imaging process yields high-quality images and data for accurate medical diagnoses. You will engage directly with patients, ensuring their comfort and tranquility throughout the procedure. Leverage your medical expertise by interviewing patients, explaining the process, and positioning them correctly on the examination table. Technologists are detail-oriented and organized, possessing a solid understanding of the anatomical areas being scanned and the patient's medical history. Build rapport with patients as you assist in diagnosing their conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct MRI scans as per physician protocols, providing compassionate care tailored to patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly.
- Execute MRI scans as instructed by the radiologist.
- Provide patient care during MRI visits.
- Manage phone inquiries and coordinate scheduling for inpatient requests.
- Ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
- Maintain proficiency in technical skills.
- Foster positive relationships with patients, customers, and colleagues.
- Commit to personal development and support a culture of learning.
- Uphold the hospital's mission and values.
- Demonstrate effective technical and patient care skills by proficiently implementing specialized procedures in the MRI department.
- Utilize administrative skills to enhance departmental operations.
- Collaborate efficiently and promptly with team members and clinical staff.
- Deliver age-appropriate care to patients across all age groups.
Additional Duties
- Perform other assigned tasks as needed.
- Adhere to all organizational policies and standards.
- Refer to departmental documentation for specific responsibilities during orientation.
- Ensure compliance with all regulations regarding the secure handling of Protected Health Information (PHI). Annual training and adherence to the hospital's Code of Conduct and policies are mandatory.
Education Requirements
- Associate's Degree from an accredited two-year program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology (Required) or
- Completion of an accredited two-year program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology (Required)
Experience
- Experience in MRI scanning is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of sterile and surgical procedures (Required proficiency).
- Familiarity with MRI equipment and safety protocols in the MRI environment (Required proficiency).
- Knowledge of radiology information systems (Required proficiency).
- Basic understanding of emergency equipment, including oxygen tanks and suction machines (Required proficiency).
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT:R) (Preferred) or
- Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) (Required) or
- Registered Technologist Radiation Therapy (ARRT-T) (Required) or
- ARDMS (Required)
- Registered Technologist MRI (ARRT-MR) within one year (Required) and
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire (Required)
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Occasional sitting.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent pushing and pulling of up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional climbing and balancing.
- Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Constant hand-eye coordination and communication skills.
Travel Requirements
- 10% travel may be required.
