Job Title: School Nurse

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate School Nurse to join our team at Collegium Charter School. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing assessment, screening, planning, intervention, evaluation, counseling, management, and referrals concerning the health and medical care needs of students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide assessment, screening, planning, intervention, evaluation, counseling, management, and referrals concerning the health and medical care needs of students.
  • Administer medications per standing and individual orders.
  • Perform clerical duties in support of health care services, including filling out student incident reports, preparing health records for new students, and maintaining a health record for each student.
  • Maintain the computerized daily record of treatments and activities, update computer records of health problems and new medications, and compile class trip lists for special needs and medications.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare providers, students, parents, school staff, and community agencies to ensure access and continuity of care for students.
  • Collect information about the health development status of students for compliance with state immunization regulations and Board of Education policies.
  • Perform nursing assessment of students who are ill or injured, providing first aid, nursing care, intervention, and referrals as needed.
  • Counsel students on health and hygiene, assist guidance counselors and Crisis Intervention Team as needed, and maintain a clean healthcare environment.
  • Perform annual health screenings per state guidelines and maintain the highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and student information and records.

Qualifications:

  • Registered professional nurse, designated as R.N., with current state license.
  • Accurate record keeping, good clerical skills, including basic office computer skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Adheres to all applicable professional safety standards and practices in the nursing field and Occupational Safety and Health regulations.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions when handling infectious waste.
  • Completion of Healthcare provider CPR training courses required.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.

Safety Requirements:

  • Adheres to all applicable professional safety standards and practices in the nursing field, including requirements set forth in federal and state law, and Occupational Safety and Health regulations.
  • Implements Board Policy regarding Blood Borne Pathogens and other Board policies regarding the medical or health care of employees and students.

Travel Requirements:

  • Frequent travel between schools may be required.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

  • Work in standard school building environment.
  • Exposure to body secretions, blood borne pathogens, medicine and medicinal supplies, illnesses and diseases.
