Position: Artisan Baker

The Artisan Baker will oversee one additional team member, necessitating strong leadership capabilities.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Food Service Director, Executive Chef, Production Manager, or Shift Supervisor.

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have one to two years of experience in baking or a related field. Familiarity with yeasts and pre-ferments is advantageous. Proficiency in baking from scratch and an understanding of presentation techniques are essential. Previous experience in food service is a plus. A customer-focused attitude and a passion for working in a student-centered environment are required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare a variety of baked goods including cakes, cookies, biscuits, muffins, and puddings from scratch and using boxed mixes.
  • Operate and maintain mixers, ensuring cleanliness and functionality.
  • Complete daily production and sanitation logs to comply with all operational standards.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean kitchen and a sanitary workspace.
  • Adhere to all HACCP sanitation and safety protocols.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Essential Skills

Dependability and reliability are crucial. Ability to create desserts from scratch is required. Candidates should foster positive relationships with colleagues. Experience in production line baking or food processing is beneficial. Knowledge of proper food handling and safety regulations is necessary. Physical capabilities include lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 75 pounds without assistance, as well as standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods. Attention to detail and the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations while following equipment and recipe instructions are essential.

Requirements

Proficiency in baking from scratch and boxed mixes is mandatory. The position operates in a fast-paced environment, and candidates must be able to adapt accordingly. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. A baking skills assessment will be required prior to hiring.
