Welcome to WVU Medicine, where we're committed to providing exceptional patient care and service. We're seeking a highly skilled Mammography Technologist to join our team.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in radiologic technology and a passion for delivering high-quality imaging services. As a Mammography Technologist, you will be responsible for performing a full range of screening and diagnostic imaging procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and perform imaging procedures based on patient needs
- Develop and maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging
- Position and compress patients accurately for procedures and fully image all breast tissue
- Minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff by shielding and selecting exposure factors
- Evaluate images for compliance with protocol, image density, contrast, detail, positioning, compression, and absence of image artifact
- Educate patients regarding mammographic procedures and answer questions accordingly
- Document imaging activities accurately and consistently in accordance with ACR and federal mandates
- Engage in problem-solving, crisis management, and systems implementation with physicians, nursing, technical, and support personnel
Requirements:
- Completion of a two-year American Medical Association-approved course in Radiologic Technology or other accredited and approved medical imaging program
- Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30 days of hire
- Certification in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist
- Certification in Mammography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist within 18 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
- ARRT Certification in Mammography upon hire
Physical Requirements:
- Differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on a black and white television monitor or photograph
- Stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day
- Lift, push, and pull up to 10 pounds of weight
- Carry items of up to 20 pounds
Working Environment:
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, body fluids, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously
- Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the Health Care Team
