Software Engineer II

As a Software Engineer II at Computer Services Incorporated, you will play a key role in developing high-quality software solutions for our clients. This is a hybrid position, requiring 3 days of in-office work per week, located in one of our offices in Paducah, KY, Lincoln, NE, or Valparaiso, IN.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced software engineer with a strong background in COBOL programming. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in writing COBOL code and will be proficient in Unisys ISAM, sorting of files, and other relevant technologies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coding, testing, and debugging programs, as well as maintaining and documenting program changes. They will also be expected to work independently and provide status updates for assigned project components.

Key Responsibilities- Takes ownership of a body of significant software and breaks down large requests into sub-tasks and prioritizes own work assignments while setting measurable goals for completion.
- Uses applicable programming language and technologies to build defined functions, writes code, completes assigned programming tasks, and performs functional testing and code debugging.
- Develops code for reuse and deployment automation, writes and executes functional test scenarios and scripts, and works independently and periodically provides status updates for assigned project components.
- Performs complex/multi-change code review changes made by self and/or others, provides mentorship to new Software Engineers, and provides troubleshooting assistance for production incidents.
- Accredited university, college, or trade school education and training in applicable technology, advanced degrees or certifications recommended.
- Advanced level position in described technology, a minimum of three (3) years of successful, in-depth work experience in relevant technical fields.
- Demonstrated technical competencies, such as but not limited to: specific technology skills vary by assigned role (COBOL), 3 years experience writing COBOL (required), understanding of Unisys ISAM, sorting of files (preferred), various methodologies for development, 3 years experience with Unisys MCP is required, writing and executing Unisys WFLs (preferred), high business acumen of the banking and financial industry, reasoning, analytical, and troubleshooting skills, communication skills - written and oral, collaboration and teamwork skills, coaching and mentorship skills, and mathematical skills.
This position requires contact primarily within the department and contact within the company on routine matters. Contact outside the company is minimal.
Decision MakingThe position requires the use of judgment to plan and perform; general decisions are made to solve a problem or select a course of action for a standard or recognized method of operation.
Supervision ReceivedFull Direction. Participates in determining objectives and approach to assignments. Plans, schedules, and arranges own activity. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
