Job Summary

Seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team at Seminole Electric. This role will be responsible for leading electrical and instrumentation control systems engineering activities for the Seminole Generating Station.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage engineering analysis, activities, and programs.
  • Provide technical expertise to identify and resolve plant equipment and system problems.
  • Assist in developing procedures, improving design recommendations, and new equipment purchase recommendations.
  • Prepare and review design changes and design calculations in accordance with governing standards and procedures.
  • Lead the development of technical specifications, pricing documents, bidder's lists, bid evaluation criteria, and project cost estimates for process systems, equipment, or maintenance projects.
  • Conduct analysis of complex plant operation or maintenance problems, making recommendations based on the analysis results.
  • Interface with other workgroups and Station Leadership regarding plant issues and improvement initiatives.
  • Support outages, emergent issues, and generation challenges, which may require shift work or off-hours work.
  • Demonstrate ownership of assigned systems/components and advocate for system performance improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct analysis of control systems, instrumentation, and electrical equipment failures to determine the source and preventative action.
  • Develop and implement trending and monitoring plans for assigned systems/components to ensure safe and reliable equipment performance.
  • Assist the DCS Administrators in troubleshooting and make recommendations for changes to the DCS systems.
  • Coordinate activities of outside consultants as assigned.
  • Take a proactive approach regarding personal safety, safety of others, and comply with all OSHA and SECI safety rules.
  • Take a proactive approach regarding environmental rules and regulations governing the operation of the plant.
  • Perform NERC Compliance Program roles if designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM), including ongoing evidence retention in 'audit-ready' form as applicable and directed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required.
  • Advanced degree in engineering is preferred.
  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in large, modern power plants (or applicable equivalent training and education) dealing with the construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation and control systems.
  • Experience must include the development of technical specifications, economic studies, evaluation and analysis, and complex technical problems.
  • Practical experience in and working knowledge of complex distributed control systems (DCS).
  • Familiarity with NERC standards and procedures is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer registration in Florida or an advanced degree in engineering may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to work and access all locations of the plant and grounds. Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Must be able to follow established protective measures, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Some travel and work outside of normal business hours. While working in certain areas of the plant, there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment.
