Position Overview

AECOM is actively seeking a skilled Lead Environmental Project Strategist to oversee National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance processes. This role is available within our Colorado team, with options in Denver or Fort Collins. The successful candidate will integrate into a network of AECOM specialists across the United States, leveraging resources from the western region to enhance project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide project management and technical guidance on environmental planning and compliance initiatives, particularly in relation to NEPA.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of clients and multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ensure revenue targets are met through repeat business driven by client satisfaction.
  • Achieve planned profit margins consistently.
  • Complete projects without financial write-downs or margin erosion.
  • Handle complex client relationships and project challenges.
  • Exercise decision-making authority and guide other Project Managers in identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Direct team members to minimize project exposure to risks.
  • Supervise and mentor team members across various projects or programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, environmental planning, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience or equivalent education, focusing on environmental permitting, NEPA compliance, and resource management.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • 10 years of experience in environmental permitting, NEPA compliance, and resource management consulting.
  • Strong experience with federal, state, tribal, and local agencies.
  • Proven leadership in proposal development and competitive bidding.
  • Experience managing complex interdisciplinary environmental planning projects, including client interactions and budget controls.
  • Strong client relationship management skills and experience leading environmental permitting services.
  • Established relationships with agencies and clients, with a track record of successfully marketing and securing work.
  • Experience in a fast-paced consulting environment, with a focus on staff management and mentorship.
  • High self-motivation and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to delegate and manage multiple tasks effectively.
