Cleaning and Maintenance Specialist Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Cleaning and Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the Holiday Inn Bismarck, ND.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that guest rooms and public areas are clean, well-maintained, and meet established standards of cleanliness and propriety. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a friendly demeanor, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Cleaning and preparing guest rooms and public areas by meeting established standards of cleanliness and propriety.
  • Retrieving items from shelves and storerooms, setting up cleaning carts with supplies, and maintaining them in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Cleansing windows, doors, walls, closets, and fixtures in rooms, public areas, and hallways using ladders or stools as needed.
  • Washing shower walls and tubs, cleaning toilets and stall walls (if applicable), wiping exposed pipes, and cleaning mirrors, sinks, and walls in guest and public restrooms.
  • Replacing towels, soaps, and room amenities, and restocking literature removed by previous guests or is soiled and torn.
  • Washing hard floor areas (linoleum, tile, etc.) by hand to remove dirt and soiled areas.
  • Dusting and polishing furniture, fixtures, and wall hangings, including using dusters to reach vents and ceiling corners to remove dust and cobwebs.
  • Stripping beds of all linen and remaking them with fresh linens, checking bedspreads, blankets, and bed pads for cleanliness and replacing if soiled.
  • Checking closet cleanliness, wiping closet doors, handles, and overhead shelves, and restocking guest room supplies such as hangers, extra blankets, and pillows.
  • Vacuuming rooms, public areas, and hallways using vacuums weighing up to 25lbs, and lifting/moving heavy furniture to vacuum entire carpeted area, including underneath furniture and hard-to-reach areas.
  • Inspecting door and window locks to ensure they are in working order and alerting management to any unsecured or unsafe situations for guest and employee safety.
  • Inspecting room equipment (TV, lights/lamps, faucets, radios) to ensure proper working order and reporting any issues to the Executive Housekeeper for prompt repair/resolution.
Responsibilities:
  • Assisting the laundry department by retrieving soiled linen from carts throughout the hotel, sorting laundry into correct size loads, utilizing industrial washers, dryers, and pressers, folding and distributing cleaned linen to storage closets and/or carts.
  • Cleaning patio/balcony areas by sweeping or hosing the floor, wiping down all furniture and fixtures, picking up garbage, and cleaning patio/balcony doors and windows.
  • Providing assistance to other employees and departments to contribute to the best overall performance of the department and hotel.
Requirements:
  • A High School diploma/Secondary qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience with Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Wyndham, or cleaning standards.
  • The ability to perform basic knowledge of general cleaning principles, use of cleaning products, and operation of standard cleaning equipment.
  • Vision ability to see minute debris and dirt in poorly lit areas, and to read written instructions and computer print-outs.
  • Upper body strength to lift up to 50lbs continually throughout an 8-hour shift.
  • Finger, hand, and upper body dexterity to push, pull, and move levers, equipment, and furniture throughout an 8-hour shift.
  • Ability to work with arms raised above head throughout an 8-hour shift.
  • Ability to maneuver fully loaded maid carts, weighing up to 50lbs, through hallways and into/out of closets during the entire work day.
