Overview: The Physician Assistant (PA) within the Cardiology Hub and Spoke Network is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, collaborating, and evaluating the healthcare needs of patients with cardiovascular conditions.

This role necessitates travel across various duty locations within the Cardiology Hub and Spoke Network.

Key Responsibilities:

The PA will evaluate and manage the care of cardiac patients, ensuring they are fully qualified and certified to operate in both clinical and administrative capacities, adhering to the policies and guidelines of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The PA is entrusted with significant authority and responsibility in their specialty area, undertaking major clinical, consultative, educational, research, and administrative tasks related to the care of Veterans with cardiovascular diseases.

The PA demonstrates a high level of expertise and a comprehensive understanding of complex skills and interventions pertinent to life-threatening cardiac conditions.


Clinical Duties:
1.

Act as an expert in clinical practice and manage healthcare for Veterans with cardiovascular needs.

2. Provide leadership in patient care, organizational processes, and improving health outcomes. 3.

Initiate referrals to advanced cardiology care when necessary and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care.

4. Assess Veterans for cardiology preoperative evaluations, expedite assessments when required, and provide preoperative recommendations. 5.

Communicate test results to Veterans promptly and coordinate necessary cardiovascular testing and follow-up.

6. Manage resources effectively to ensure safe and efficient patient care. 7. Utilize professional standards to evaluate Hub and Spoke Network activities.

Administrative Duties:
1. Assist Cardiologists in managing the care of Veterans with cardiovascular conditions. 2. Collaborate with team members to support patient flow and care delivery. 3. Screen and prioritize cardiology consults. 4.

Coordinate and participate in interdisciplinary meetings to address quality of care, documentation, and service delivery.

5. Attend relevant meetings to facilitate and enhance cardiology services.

Education and Research:
1.

Serve as the educational point of contact for Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners requiring training within the Cardiology Hub and Spoke Network.

2. Maintain self-development and stay updated on trends in cardiovascular medicine. 3. Engage in cardiology research programs as appropriate. 4. Develop and implement educational plans to meet evolving program needs. 5. Stay informed about current techniques, trends, and professional issues. 6. Lead orientation and training sessions as needed.

Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, with potential for telework based on program needs and performance.

Requirements:

Qualifications: Candidates must meet the basic requirements, including citizenship, English proficiency, and educational background. A graduate of an accredited PA training program is essential, along with certification from the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE).

Active and unrestricted licensure to practice as a PA in the United States is required.

Physical Requirements: The role primarily involves sedentary work but requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods to interact with patients and other services.
