Position Summary
The Environmental Education Facilitator plays a crucial role in the design, organization, and execution of diverse programs aimed at engaging both adults and youth. This position requires the individual to serve as a mentor and guide, ensuring a nurturing and stimulating environment for participants of varying ages. A strong emphasis is placed on effective communication, meticulous organization, and proactive risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and cultivate a community through open communication and collaboration.
- Supervise participants to ensure their engagement, safety, and enjoyment.
- Deliver exceptional customer service while addressing inquiries and concerns from staff, participants, and guardians.
- Participate actively in all training sessions, meetings, and workshops.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and essential documentation to meet organizational standards.
- Adapt instructional methods and environments to accommodate diverse needs and learning styles.
- Design and facilitate lessons and activities that promote growth, impart nature-based knowledge, and create memorable experiences.
- Monitor registration figures and manage expenses to adhere to budgetary constraints.
- Exemplify environmental stewardship by practicing and promoting sustainable behaviors.
- Ensure that all program materials and spaces are clean, organized, and safe.
- Manage participant behavior effectively, enforce regulations, and make informed decisions to ensure safety.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders.
- Stay informed about safety protocols and enforce guidelines established by the organization.
- Assist in the care of educational ambassador animals as part of the programming.
- Support special projects, programs, or events as needed.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- High school diploma or GED required; coursework in environmental science, education, or related fields preferred.
- Experience working with children and leading groups.
- Background in developing and implementing educational programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software.
- Flexibility to assist with program setup and breakdown.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Organized, responsible, and professional demeanor.
- Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED required within three months of hire, with training provided by the organization.
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
- Capability to engage in prolonged standing, kneeling, and active participation with participants.
- Assist with the setup and takedown of program materials.
- Respond swiftly and appropriately in emergencies, prioritizing participant safety.
- Work conducted both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Ability to present ideas clearly and follow instructions effectively.
- Professional representation of the organization in all interactions.
- Ability to work autonomously without direct supervision.
- Adherence to safety guidelines and sound judgment in all responsibilities.
- Comfortable handling ambassador animals, including reptiles and invertebrates.
Internal: Employees of the Park District.
External: Community members, patrons, and partner organizations.
