We are seeking a skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team at AHRC New York City. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in helping individuals with developmental disabilities achieve their full potential.
Job Summary:The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for evaluating the physical functioning of individuals and providing training and assistive devices to eliminate or reduce areas of deficit. You will work closely with staff to establish rehabilitation and maintenance goals and activities.
Key Responsibilities:- Evaluate occupational therapy needs of individuals and provide services as ordered by a physician or nurse practitioner.
- Develop and implement specific functional exercise programs to increase strength, range of motion, and coordination of upper extremities.
- Provide assistive and adaptive equipment to assist with activities of daily living needs.
- Teach the use of assistive and adaptive equipment to individuals and staff to achieve maximum independence.
- Evaluate and treat cognitive perceptual defects.
- Maintain accurate records of each individual treated, including general information, provisional diagnoses, special precautions, and treatment rendered.
- Ensure initial evaluations are completed upon admission and make physician contact to document initial findings, goals, treatment frequency, and estimated length of service.
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning for individuals' needs and re-evaluate every 3 months to assess progress attained.
- Consult with other members of the health team to coordinate therapeutic programs for individuals.
- Complete all necessary documentation within 7 days of service and submit discharge summaries at completion of services.
- Current licensure in New York State as an Occupational Therapist.
- Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association in New York State.
- Graduate of a Program in Occupational Therapy Curriculum, accredited jointly by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
