Position Overview:

The Ski & Snowboard School Training Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Training Manager and Lead in fostering a positive training environment across the Ski and Snowboard Schools. This is accomplished through collaborative efforts with supervisors, managers, and the leadership team to enhance training quality, staffing recommendations, and the delivery of exceptional ski and snowboard training. This role reports directly to the Training Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Training Manager and Lead Trainer in organizing schedules for trainers, new hires, and returning staff for mandatory training sessions and ongoing education events, ensuring follow-up on scheduling adjustments as necessary.
  • Work closely with Supervisors and Managers to coordinate specific training sessions tailored to departmental needs, including cross-departmental training as required.
  • Participate in essential weekly meetings focused on training, supervisory discussions, and one-on-one sessions with the Training Manager.
  • Communicate effectively and promptly with employees, supervisors, and managers regarding training plans, providing regular updates as circumstances evolve.
  • Offer mentorship and professional development support to emerging trainers, contributing to the growth of the Northstar ski and snowboard training team.
  • Serve as a resource for instructors, aiding in their professional development and career advancement.
  • Lead or facilitate indoor training sessions, including new hire orientations, returning staff training, and ongoing education.
  • Guide new and returning employees through comprehensive training programs.
  • Monitor and document training activities for the ski and snowboard school and other departmental employees participating in assessments.
  • Ensure the safety of training groups by exemplifying and demonstrating the skier and rider responsibility code at the highest standard, selecting appropriate terrain that aligns with the clinic's objectives.
  • Provide immediate, constructive feedback to clinic participants that is relevant to the clinic's focus, fostering discussions that promote deeper understanding of the topics.
  • To lead PSIA/AASI training clinics, maintain current membership dues and educational credits with recognized organizations.
  • Deliver high-quality lessons to guests during peak business periods, ensuring adherence to company guidelines and safety regulations.
  • Act as a role model, demonstrating professionalism for new hires, returning staff, supervisors, and management.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Northstar resource and guidelines manual, functioning as a trainer in accordance with established protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
  • Current PSIA/AASI Level 3 or equivalent certification required.
  • Three to six months of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • A minimum of three years as a full-time instructor at a recognized ski and snowboard school.
  • Strong communication skills in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Self-management skills and the ability to prioritize various responsibilities.
  • Capability to maintain organized data.
The expected pay range is $27.00 per hour. Individual compensation decisions are based on various factors.
