Position Overview: The Academic Program Coordinator for Upward Bound plays a pivotal role in supporting the educational journey of first-generation and low-income high school students. This position is integral to the success of the Upward Bound Program, focusing on providing essential academic support and guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Engagement: Facilitate weekly meetings with students to enhance personal growth, career exploration, and academic skills, while preparing them for college.
- Program Coordination: Organize and oversee various activities for Upward Bound participants, including college visits, cultural experiences, and community service projects.
- Tutoring and Workshops: Provide and supervise tutorial sessions and workshops aimed at improving academic performance.
- Monitoring Progress: Track student achievements and collaborate with the Director and Academic Specialist to implement necessary interventions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with high school staff and community partners to deliver coordinated educational services.
- Administrative Duties: Maintain comprehensive student application files, manage communication with students and parents, and ensure compliance with educational reporting requirements.
- Program Evaluation: Assess program initiatives and recommend improvements to enhance student outcomes.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field is required, along with a minimum of one year of relevant experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential.
Preferred Skills: Experience working with underrepresented student populations, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive under pressure are highly valued.
Additional Requirements: A valid driver's license is necessary for this role, as routine travel is expected. This position involves working with minors, necessitating background checks as per university policies.
