Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Scientist specializing in Microbiology to join our dynamic team developing bio-cementation processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in microbial physiology, environmental microbiology, microbial ecology, or geomicrobiology, with a passion for exploring the interactions between microorganisms and their environments.
Responsibilities:
- Enrich and isolate microbes with targeted physiological traits from environmental samples.
- Design and execute rigorous experiments to understand microbial metabolism in liquid culture and in situ environments.
- Analyze subject organisms in the context of microbial communities using advanced molecular techniques such as metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and bioinformatics.
- Utilize classical and modern approaches to enumerate bacteria.
- Develop and optimize microbiological assays and protocols.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in the field and apply innovative approaches to research projects.
- Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across the organization, including research and development departments and engineering teams.
- Communicate project status, scientific concepts, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Recommended Qualifications:
- Ph.D in Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Geomicrobiology, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in microbial research, including molecular techniques, culturing, and bioinformatics.
- Experience with genetic manipulation of non-model bacteria, the physiology of spore-forming bacteria, and/or facultative anaerobes is beneficial but not required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
- Proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
