Nursing Assistant

We are seeking a skilled Nursing Assistant to join our team at the Community Living Center in the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center. As a Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide personal nursing care to inpatients and assist licensed nursing staff in the care of patients/residents receiving outpatient care, home or community living care, and other patients/residents who are in acute, sub-acute, or chronic states of illness.
- Function as an integral member of the CLC nursing care team and participate in the admission of patients by collecting information, orienting patients to the appropriate unit, checking them for contraband when indicated, and assisting the nurse in formulating nursing actions.
- Take vital signs, obtain specimens, and support the nursing staff and Physician with any diagnostic testing and performing patient care treatments such as foot soaks or changes of sterile dressings.
- Identify and meet the needs of patients for information and guidance in daily living and promote patient participation in therapeutic communities by fostering increased self-reliance and independence through involving patients in their own treatment plan.
- Report any changes in patient's condition or behavior that might be caused by drug reactions or problems on the ward.
- Encourage patients to maintain self-care and check on their physical and emotional progress using the designated charting techniques for the ward.
- Accurately and efficiently describe and report all subtle behavioral changes and interactions among patients and the nursing staff.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients at all times and contribute to maintaining a ward environment oriented toward future independent living.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Education or Training: Experience must demonstrate the ability to acquire the knowledge and skills to perform the work of a NA.
- English Proficiency: Nursing Assistants must be proficient in spoken and written English.
- Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
- 37-50 days of annual paid time off per year.
- 13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, and 11 paid Federal holidays per year.
- Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.
- Parental Leave: Up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
- Child Care Subsidy: Full-time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
