Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Arts and Crafts Facility on McConnell AFB. The Recreation Specialist will assist the director in preparing annual program plans, class schedules, and providing support to instructors and students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the director in managing the Arts and Crafts Facility
  • Prepare annual program plans and class schedules
  • Provide support to instructors and students
  • Assume duties of the director in their absence
  • Coordinate arts and crafts competitions, shows, and exhibitions
  • Enroll patrons in instructional arts and crafts programs
  • Set up exhibits and displays
  • Conduct contests in various crafts
  • Monitor patrons using the Arts and Crafts Center
  • Direct staff to orientate patrons concerning rules, practices, and safety factors
  • Serve as training coordinator for training employees in techniques and practices of the center
  • Assist the director in preparation and submission of operating budget requirements
  • Perform administrative duties, such as compiling reports, letters, and endorsements
  • Complete arts and crafts recurring and special reports
  • Maintain arts and crafts administrative, reference, and technical files
  • Serve as Arts and Crafts Center timekeeper
  • Prepare and submit time reports
  • Perform ongoing customer relations and interaction
  • Inform participants and employees of rules and policies
  • Answer questions regarding programs, facilities, and hours of operation
Requirements
  • A degree in general Art and management studies preferred
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience and knowledge of principles, concepts, methods, and techniques in fine or visual arts and crafts may substitute
  • Organizational skills and ability to plan and develop leisure time activities and instructional classes for a diverse community
  • Ability to apply procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise in a skills development or related operation
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to multitask
  • Able to develop operational budgets and meeting financial goals
  • Demonstrated knowledge of personnel management and training
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental work practices
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift 20 lbs. without assistance
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • May use various chemicals, tools, paints, etc.
