Position Overview

The Electrical Services Technician within Milwaukee Water Works (MWW) is responsible for the installation, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment, including pumps, motors, generators, and automated machinery within MWW water treatment facilities and distribution networks.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Diagnosis and Repair

  • Diagnose issues in electrical wiring components, systems, and equipment, including AC/DC circuits, high voltage systems, switchgear, and transformers.
  • Conduct repairs on electrical apparatus in water treatment plants, pumping stations, and other facilities managed by MWW.

Preventive and Demand Maintenance

  • Execute preventive maintenance on electrical systems at MWW locations.
  • Oversee the maintenance of motors and controllers of varying horsepower.

Automation Support

  • Collaborate with the Plant Automation unit to install, troubleshoot, and maintain control systems, including variable frequency drives and chemical feed systems.

Installation and Upgrades

  • Install electrical systems in compliance with relevant codes and MWW standards.
  • Review blueprints and schematics for new construction and existing facilities.

Work Order Management

  • Utilize the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to manage work orders, order supplies, and document activities.

Employment Conditions

The Electrical Services Technician must be prepared to:

  • Respond to emergency call-ins as needed.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule.
  • Travel to various MWW facilities for work assignments.
  • Distinguish colors for color-coded wiring systems.
  • Work in confined spaces and environments with high noise levels and hazardous materials.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Engage in physical activities requiring agility and strength.
  • Work at heights exceeding 100 feet.
  • Lift and move heavy objects as necessary.
  • Endure varying weather conditions.

Pre-Employment Medical Requirements

  • Physical/lift test
  • Audiogram
  • Vision test
  • DOT drug screening

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four years of experience in electrical service installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) A, B, and C.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as an industrial electrician with automation control systems.
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship program.
  • State of Wisconsin certification as a Master or Journey-level Electrician.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of electrical wiring, circuitry, and electronic components.
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Code (NEC) and local electrical codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical documents.
  • Proficiency in using test equipment and hand tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting mechanical systems.
  • Commitment to safe work practices.

Current Salary

The salary range for this position is $92,987-$120,936, with potential for higher placement based on experience and qualifications.
