CT Technologist

The CT Technologist is responsible for performing computed tomography examinations in accordance with ACR accreditation practice guidelines and SARH protocols. This role requires a strong understanding of cross-sectional anatomy and common landmarks used for positioning and scanning.
Key Responsibilities- Perform diagnostic procedures on patients according to American College of Radiology standards and practices, MQSA, ARRT, and/or ARDMS.
- Adapt procedures according to protocol to meet the individual needs of the patient, the provider, and the situation.
- Identify and perform safety measures according to regulatory agency and policy guidelines.
- Communicate with patients, team members, and management in an accurate and timely manner.
- Protect confidentiality of patient/colleagues.
- Apply critical thinking skills and consider alternatives.
- Organize multitask workload and prioritize tasks.
- Collect/integrate data from multiple sources and organize/deliver care for multiple priorities.
- Develop and maintain human care relationships.
- Adapt patient care for diverse populations and advocate for needs of patients.
- Refer concerns/issues to appropriate resources and manage self and resources effectively.
- Acknowledge limits of experience and capability and identify learning needs and seek resources.
- Utilize equipment and supplies appropriately and maintain clean, orderly environment of care.
- Ensure traffic control in "sensitive areas" and seek out and accept feedback.
- Request assistance appropriately and apply leadership skills.
- Participate in QC and performance improvement initiatives and manage conflict.
- Coordinate workflow among co-workers to maintain adequate coverage for scheduled and non-scheduled exams.
- Incorporate teaching in delivery of care with a focus on health promotion.
- Provide appropriate information to patient and assess for barriers to learning.
- Use colleagues as a learning resource and support the preceptorship program, student rotations, and job shadow experiences.
- Demonstrate the unit-specific skills requisite for unit/patient population served.
- Perform duties and functions as a CT Technologist.
- Obtain and assess patient history and determine appropriateness and specific protocol. Refer to Radiologists with any questions.
- Perform CT Scans according to set protocols with the ability to effectively manipulate and/or adapt technical parameters when needed to obtain maximum image quality.
- Maintain knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and common landmarks used for positioning and scanning.
- Maintain a high level of awareness in regards to Radiation Safety and CT Dose, adhering to ALARA standards and ACR guidelines.
- Has documented training in operating CT equipment and Radiation Physics. Use appropriate shielding when possible.
- Perform post-processing of images to include but not limited to: Multi Planar Reformats (MPRs), oblique MPRs, 3-D volume rendering, and Maximum Intensity Projections (MIPs).
- Screen all patients requiring IV contrast media for allergies, and/or those that may be at high risk for Contrast Induced Nephrotoxicity (i.e. Metformin, kidney function).
- Provide clear explanations to patients requiring IV contrast, explaining risks vs. benefits, while obtaining consent.
- Prepare and administer contrast media (oral, IV, and rectal) appropriately to include patient preparations and documentation.
- Maintain competency in obtaining IV access for those receiving IV contrast.
- Has extensive knowledge of High Pressure Power Injectors and manufacturer guidelines of IV access devices. Safely injects patients using Power Injector, selecting appropriate settings and manipulating technical parameters if needed.
- Accurately send studies to VRad (remote Radiologists) on off shifts when Radiologist is not in-house.
- Perform QA duties in accordance with ACR CT QA Program.
- Maintain continuing education requirements to include 5 CT specific credits per year.
- Work in and provide coverage in other modalities/satellites appropriate to credentials, scheduling, and department needs.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
