About the Job

The Manager of Nursing position is a key leadership role responsible for the 24-hour operational management of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This registered nurse position fosters interdepartmental collaboration and participates in committees representing the unit and nursing department in a positive manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement performance initiatives to ensure optimal patient safety, outcomes, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage daily work activities of the unit staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence, and efficiency.
  • Provide guidance to staff, responsible for staffing, budget compliance, and contributing to staffing decisions such as hiring and terminating employment.
  • Implement training, monitoring, and operations initiatives to secure compliance with ethical and legal business practices and accreditation/regulatory/government regulations.
Essential FunctionsPeople
  • Perform management responsibilities of selection, scheduling, supervision, retention, and evaluation of employees in the department.
  • Provide fair and consistent leadership and communication to maintain a competent and engaged employee group.
  • Facilitate and promote effective team dynamics and teambuilding strategies within and between departments.
  • Establish effective, two-way communication with staff, demonstrating active listening, requesting and acknowledging feedback, and making equitable decisions.
Service
  • Plan and organize day-to-day department operations, schedule, and activities.
  • Drive department service standards and activities to impact department and/or system score for patient/customer-based satisfaction.
  • Serve as a role model to staff, reinforcing principles of service orientation and ensuring that the focus is always on improving patient care and/or services.
Quality/Safety
  • Ensure a safe and effective working environment, monitoring and/or revising the department safety plan and/or any specific accreditation/regulatory required safety guidelines.
  • Use and optimize information systems to enhance operations, supporting entity-specific performance improvement and data management/analysis functions.
  • Employs a proactive approach in the optimization of safe outcomes by monitoring and improving the department workflow.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing.
  • Three years' experience in nursing, one year in a progressive leadership role in healthcare.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure within 90 days.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA).
