Psychiatric Technician

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Technician to join our team at Parkland Health and Hospital System. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support to individuals with mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care, including vital sign monitoring, phlebotomy, and medication administration, while ensuring a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.
- Assist with patient activities and procedures, under the direction of a registered nurse, to promote optimal patient health and well-being.
- Monitor patient behavior and respond to changes in condition, notifying nurses and other healthcare team members as needed.
- Collect, store, and document patient valuables and non-valuables to facilitate patient services.
- Interview, counsel, and advise patients on their rights and needs, while establishing and maintaining rapport with patients.
- Clean patients, patient possessions, and patient areas to maintain cleanliness standards.
- Transport patients to and from test locations, and transport medicines and other items to support patient care.
- Document patient behaviors and care provided to patients in seclusion, restraint, or on 1:1 to reduce the risk of injury and provide a record of patient behavior.
- Serve as a patient advocate, responding to patient needs and special requests, while maintaining open communication and honoring patient confidentiality.
- Associate's Degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
- One year of experience in a healthcare setting, or equivalent education and/or experience.
- Current Heartsaver CPR course completion card within 90 days of hire.
- Satori Alternatives for Managing Aggression (SAMA) certification, level 1-4, within 60 days of hire.
- Ability to demonstrate basic patient care skills, clerical/administrative duties, and the use of supplies and assigned equipment.
