Quality Engineer Job Description

Horton, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Quality Engineer to join our team at our Britton, South Dakota location. As a Quality Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality of our products and processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support continuous improvement projects and quality assignments to drive process excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide quality engineering support in new product development, including the development of assembly methods, assembly line layout, and capacity analysis.
  • Utilize data, lean principles, and problem-solving methodologies to solve problems, prevent recurrence, and propose solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to improve quality and reduce costs.
  • Support Horton's Environmental and Quality Management Systems (ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and IATF 16949).
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of the company, customers, and suppliers.
  • Perform capability studies and analyze data using Minitab software.
  • Lead in the development and maintenance of Process Flow, Process FMEA's, and Control Plans.
  • Initiate corrective actions (8D's) and use the three-legged 5 Why tool to determine root cause for customer complaints, internal and external audit findings, and internal and external product failures/defects.
  • Conduct IATF 16949 and other internal audits.
  • Assist with the development of PPAP documentation for customers and review of supplier PPAP's.
  • Assist in designing or purchasing measuring equipment to meet product specifications relative to quality and automated gaging to improve throughput.
  • Able to travel up to 25% for customer/supplier visits.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrate expertise in problem-solving skills, including identifying, investigating, and countermeasuring manufacturing or supplier-related technical and/or systemic issues.
  • Possess the ability to be self-directed and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Able to build effective teams and work with suppliers, plant manufacturing, and purchasing to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes for components and automotive components and functional requirements.
  • Qualified candidate will have a 4-year technical or business degree. Equivalent education equals 2 years of closely related manufacturing and quality experience for 1 year of education.
