Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Instrument Maker to join our team at the U.S. Department of the Interior. As an Instrument Maker, you will be responsible for designing, fabricating, and producing complex instruments, equipment, and models to support research, laboratory, and field activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and fabricate specialized instruments, equipment, and models using various materials and techniques.
  • Provide technical advice to engineers and scientists on instrumentation, model components, and equipment design.
  • Assist in the review and modification of preliminary sketches and plans, and use judgment and decision-making to implement instrumentation and equipment.
  • Prepare cost estimates for labor and materials, schedule estimates for fabrication, and maintain instruments, models, and equipment.
  • Support laboratory construction and maintenance activities, and assist in the design, fabrication, and assembly of unique templates and equipment.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow safety protocols in all work activities.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
  • Suitability for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.
  • Submission of a resume and supporting documentation.
  • Eligibility documents for veterans consideration.
  • Successful pre-employment physical examination.
