Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Middle School Science Teacher to join our team at Uncommon Schools. As a Science Teacher, you will play a critical role in preparing our students for success in college and beyond by providing a high-quality education in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instruction
    • Develop and implement a rigorous, interdisciplinary Science curriculum that aligns with national standards and promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific literacy.
    • Design and deliver engaging lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students have access to a high-quality education.
    • Use a variety of instructional strategies to foster a love of Science and promote student engagement, including hands-on activities, group discussions, and project-based learning.
    • Cultivate a growth mindset in students, encouraging them to take risks, ask questions, and explore the natural world.
  • Data Analysis
    • Analyze student performance data to inform instruction and make data-driven decisions to improve student outcomes.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement school-wide initiatives that promote academic excellence and close achievement gaps.
  • School Culture
    • Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues to create a supportive and inclusive school community.
    • Participate in school-wide events and activities that promote social-emotional learning, character development, and community engagement.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Science, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience working with students in an urban school setting, preferably in a Science education role.
  • Strong knowledge of Science curriculum and instructional strategies, including project-based learning and technology integration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and a desire to continuously improve teaching practices and student outcomes.
