Clinical Pharmacy Resident

The PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency at Kern Medical is structured to enhance the direct patient care competencies established during a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency. This program aims to cultivate residents into proficient practitioners capable of delivering evidence-based care across a diverse range of medication-managed conditions.
Training Environment:
Residents will engage in rotations across various hospital-based and external clinics, where clinical pharmacists exercise full prescriptive authority to manage chronic diseases. The residency includes participation in several pharmacist-led clinics, focusing on:
- Diabetes Management
- Anticoagulation Therapy
- Hypertension Control
Additionally, residents will collaborate in primary and specialty care clinics, providing comprehensive medication management for conditions such as HIV, oncology, and endocrinology.
Program Goals:
The objective of the PGY-2 program is to furnish residents with extensive experiences in high-demand areas, equipping them for successful careers in ambulatory care post-residency. Residents will practice autonomously within a broad scope, ensuring continuity of care through longitudinal rotations.
Required Learning Experiences:

- Infectious Disease
- Administration
- Research
Elective Opportunities:
Flexibility in the schedule will be available in the latter half of the program, tailored to resident interests and program needs.

Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must hold a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited program and have completed or be actively completing a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency or equivalent. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in California.
Additional Requirements:
Applicants may need to undergo a background investigation and fingerprinting. All residents are expected to fulfill duties as designated 'Disaster Service Workers' in accordance with local laws.
