About the Role

Southwest Research Institute is seeking a highly skilled Lead Engineering Technologist to join our team of experts in the field of avionics systems. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing complex Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layouts that meet avionics standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and technicians to execute complex R&D aerospace and defense programs.
  • Interact with technical staff, vendors, and customers to interpret project technical and management data.
  • Design and develop complex PCB layouts that meet avionics standards.
  • Support integration, test, engineering labs, suppliers, production, supply chain, and the build of complex microprocessor-based LRUs.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent degree with continued education, certifications, or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or related field.
  • AS degree or Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or related field is preferred.
  • Must have IPC-Certified Interconnect Design (CID) basic.
  • CID+ (advanced) certification preferred.
  • 25 years of experience is required without a Bachelor's degree and advanced working knowledge of Mentor Graphics PADS Professional, and/or Xpedition.
  • 6-10 years is required with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Circuit Design, with emphasis on power electronics and/or digital design.
  • Basic understanding of configuration management and electronic development methods are required.
  • A good understanding of Signal Integrity as well as a good mechanical aptitude is desired.
  • Prior knowledge of IPC standards, Digital, Mixed Signal, and RF electronics PWB designs.
  • Interconnect principles and practices designing low-level and complex PWB designs is beneficial.
  • Experience with 12+ layer board designs expected.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
