$25.50/hourly

Position Overview:
The Mechanical Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling various subassemblies and/or finished products within the Production department. Additional duties encompass conducting functional tests to ensure compliance with specifications, performing quality checks, and ensuring timely deliveries. This role reports directly to the Production Leads and Production Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Consistently report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Adhere to SIG's Cardinal Rules.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
  • Interpret Assembly Drawings, verbal instructions, and work instructions when available.
  • Assemble a variety of subassemblies and finished products.
  • Lubricate, align, and adjust assemblies for optimal operation.
  • Conduct operating tests according to product checklists.
  • Utilize common hand tools (manual, air-driven & battery), arbor presses, and hand trucks.
  • Exercise care to minimize scrap and rework.
  • Produce products to established standards.
  • Proactively identify and communicate simplification methods and potential cost reductions.
  • Seek out new challenges.
  • Immediately report any malfunctioning tools or machinery to the Production Lead or Manager.
  • Communicate effectively with team members.
  • Demonstrate cooperation and collaboration to achieve team success.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Utilize considerable judgment, initiative, and effective decision-making amidst change.
  • Participate in group, department, and safety meetings.
  • Maintain a customer-oriented approach to exceed expectations.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized work environment, including implementing 5S practices.
  • Package and include all components and documents in Finished Product shipments.
  • Record daily production data.
  • Assist in training less experienced employees.
  • Read and comprehend blueprints and shop drawings.
  • Possess a detailed understanding of part/product specifications and tolerances.
  • Be cross-trained on multiple assembly products.
  • Participate in group, department, and safety meetings.
  • Assist in mentoring less experienced employees.
  • Take a leadership role in safety observations, JSA's, work instructions, and reporting.

Job Qualifications:
Level 1:
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to build assemblies and finished equipment according to technical drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient in using hand tools for assembly.
  • Knowledge of measuring tools and capability to make precise dimensional measurements.
  • Ability to utilize checklists and ensure quality control on all tasks.
  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in a manufacturing assembly environment is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Level 2:
  • Capable of performing all Level 1 functions and qualifications effectively.
  • Able to mentor less experienced employees.
  • Knowledge of specific parts and problem-solving skills for quality errors.
  • Work independently on standard assembly tasks.
  • Proficient in using hand tools and machinery in the Production Department.
  • Basic shop math skills are required.
  • Basic knowledge of PC applications is required.
  • Consistently works scheduled overtime as needed.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing assembly environment.
  • Forklift experience is a plus.
Level 3:
  • Capable of performing all Level 2 functions and qualifications effectively.
  • Able to take on leadership roles.
  • Ability to analyze parts and subassemblies for functional quality defects.
  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to complete mechanical assembly tasks independently.
  • Consistently assists lower-level assembly employees to complete tasks.
  • Able to travel to customer facilities for assignments as required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a manufacturing assembly environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 2 years of Technical or Vocational degree is preferred.
Working Conditions:
Some positions may require exposure to unpleasant odors and noise.

Physical Requirements:
The job entails bending, reaching, stooping, standing, and/or walking for extended periods. Employees may need to lift and/or move heavy objects.
