Job Responsibilities
  • A Speech-language pathologist (SLP) assesses and treats patients in the acute medical environment. The speech pathologist delivers services to individuals of all ages following trauma, surgery, acute medical incidents, or exacerbations. SLPs aid patients in achieving their highest level of function in communication and swallowing.
  • The SLP makes recommendations for subsequent levels of care and provides education to patients and their families. They also participate in specialized teams, including pediatric, neonatal care, assistive technology, and endoscopic voice/swallowing evaluations.
Qualifications
  • Education
    • Required: Master's Degree in Speech Pathology/Communicative Disorders and Sciences
  • Experience
    • Preferred: At least one year of experience in a hospital or healthcare setting
  • Skills
    • Strong clinical expertise, interpersonal skills, and organizational abilities are essential.
    • Self-motivated individual capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
    • Demonstrated commitment to professional development through attendance at continuing education workshops and application of new techniques.
    • Excellent communication skills and a positive demeanor are required.
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration
    • Required: Active Speech Therapy license in the state of Missouri, CCC or CFY candidate, and BLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
