Job Title: Life Enrichment Assistant-Skilled Nursing-Per Diem

Seacrest Village Retirement Communities-Best Place is seeking a Life Enrichment Assistant-Skilled Nursing-Per Diem to join our team. As a Life Enrichment Assistant-Skilled Nursing-Per Diem, you will be responsible for assisting Life Enrichment Specialists with participating, developing, maintaining, and implementing resident group activities. You will ensure and promote ongoing social and physical stimulation, spiritual, cultural, and intellectual needs of our residents. You will assist with supervision and maintaining resident safety. You will be able to enhance resident Life Enrichment experience and maintain a clean environment. You will promote resident well-being and satisfaction. You will communicate with other departments to ensure resident needs are met. You will have flexibility in your schedule to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Job Summary:

The Life Enrichment Assistant-Skilled Nursing-Per Diem will assist Life Enrichment Specialists with planning and organizing individual and group activities. You will lead and participate in individual and group activities as directed by the Director of Life Enrichment and Lead in that program. You will provide and lead individual and group activities in the evenings and weekends. You will assist as needed with paperwork, attendance sheets, food requests, and documentation of resident's plan of care. You will maintain the Life Enrichment bulletin and electronic boards. You will recognize abnormal signs and symptoms which signify a physical change in resident's condition that would require nursing intervention. You will drive facility vehicles as necessary. You will be responsible for transportation and escorting of residents to and from one area to designated area within the facility where activities occur. You will be responsible to assist residents on outings. You will participate in the in-service program of the facility. You will practice non-judgmental, unconditional acceptance of our residents. You will be warm, kind, and maintain a cheerful, friendly, and positive attitude. You will use patience and SV-approved techniques to deal with and communicate with our residents. You will encourage residents to make choices for self, learn new skills, and maintain former interests so that residents maintain or increase functional and cognitive ability as much as possible. You will present and/or co-present programs in front of a group of residents including trivia, word games, short stories, and games. You will meet, escort, and greet volunteers and performers. You will report observations of residents and their needs to the Director of GRC/Campus Life Enrichment, Life Enrichment Specialists, and/or the Directors. You will help serve and/or clean up after events. You will cue, accompany, and/or assist residents when needed with personal hygiene. You will welcome families and caregivers warmly and help make transition times as easy as possible. You will be flexible and responsible to the various needs of our residents and their families. You will encourage social exchange with staff and other residents. You will set-up and assist in various group activities. You will assist residents from chairs, scooters, walkers, or wheelchairs. You will assist Director of GRC/Campus Life Enrichment and/or Life Enrichment Specialists in creating and planning activities. You will build community: understand and embrace the role of volunteers; help members and participants make connections to others and to SV; practice effective relationship-building techniques. You will work with the Volunteer Coordinator to enhance the volunteer program, including the training of new volunteers and the scheduling of volunteers. You will assist with the annual recognition event for volunteers. You will assist with and help with yearbook and gift shop, shopping, and restock.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and two years of related work experience acceptable.
  • Some course work in Activities for geriatric population desirable to include Activity Director's Certification.
  • Minimum one (1) year in Life Enrichment program for Alzheimer, senior center, hospital, retirement living, or hotel setting preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of a variety of activities.
  • Exhibit the ability to give instruction to others.
  • Must be friendly, diplomatic to all staff members, families, volunteers, and community organizations, especially cooperative with staff who provide direct care.
  • Willingness and aptitude for working with a variety of people, at all levels and ages.
  • Have basic understanding of the needs of the ill elderly and have an empathetic approach to illness.
  • Able to pass pre-employment TB exam and physical and obtain fingerprint clearance according to our licenser.
  • Computer literate in multiple software.
  • First Aid Certification, Class C mandatory & B license (desirable), Food Handlers course.
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires ability to stand on feet for several hours at a time during the workday.
  • Excellent vision and hearing.
  • Good verbal and written communication possesses good command of the English language.
  • Able to coordinate room setup, serve, and clean.
  • Able to push/pull up to 125lbs in wheelchair, and lift up to 25lbs and move 25lbs unassisted.
