To coordinate and monitor care of patients in the assigned clinical area, ensuring seamless delivery of high-quality services. This role requires a strong leader who can effectively manage and supervise a team of dialysis staff, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and a positive work environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Leadership and Management: Assist the manager in making monthly staffing schedules and day-to-day work assignments to department dialysis staff. Assess workloads and make special assignments during peak and slow periods.
- Staff Coordination: Call in staff to meet minimum staffing requirements, making managers aware of requests for overtime, and coordinating with other clinical teams to cover staff shortages.
- Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution: Handle difficult and problematic work situations, including resolving member issues and escalating to management as needed.
- Training and Development: Serve as a resource for other staff members by answering questions, orienting new staff, and identifying staff needs for training.
- Special Projects: Perform special projects as assigned by the manager, including implementing new workflows and processes, removing barriers, and communicating initiatives.
- Performance Evaluation and Feedback: Routinely provide feedback to the manager for staff performance, work habits, and barriers to efficient, high-quality work.
- Policy Development: Assist with the development and revision of department policies and procedures.
- Operational Support: Provide input into day-to-day operational issues that may support the hiring, evaluation, and termination of staff decisions.
- Peritoneal Dialysis Care: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate a plan of care for peritoneal dialysis patients, including administering medications, ensuring narcotics and drug supplies, and initiating and monitoring IV therapy and peritoneal dialysis exchanges.
- Documentation and Communication: Document emergency situations within the department and communicate with the clinical operations manager as needed.
- Patient Education and Advocacy: Coordinate, implement, and evaluate patient teaching plans for areas such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, anticoagulant therapy, and peritoneal dialysis at home.
- Team Collaboration: Supervise patient flow and direct other clinical support staff in the delivery of patient care within the Health Care Team (HCT).
- Experience: Minimum six (6) months experience providing clinical care to peritoneal dialysis patients in a chronic or acute setting, and minimum one (1) year experience as a registered nurse.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing.
- Credentials: Registered Nurse License (Virginia) within 6 months of hire, and Registered Nurse License (Maryland) within 6 months of hire, or Compact License: Registered Nurse within 6 months of hire, and Registered Nurse License (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire.
